Split Happy Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2, 2026
Split Happy ("Split Happy," "we," "us") is developed by KSZ Apps. This policy explains what information Split Happy collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and the choices you have, written to describe exactly what the app does, not generic boilerplate.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, a display name, and a phone number. If you sign up with Google or Apple instead of a password, we receive your name and email from that provider rather than a password. Your phone number is collected for potential future use (such as account recovery or two-factor authentication) and is never shown to other users.
Profile information (optional)
You may add a profile photo and payment handles (Venmo username, PayPal.me handle, Cash App $cashtag) so people who owe you money can find you on those apps. Your display name, photo, and any payment handles you set are visible to people you share a group with.
Group, expense, and settlement data
This is the core of what Split Happy does, so it's the core of what we store:
- Group names and who belongs to each group.
- Expenses you log: name, amount, currency, date, who paid, how it's split, an optional note, and an optional receipt photo you attach.
- Settlements: who paid whom, how much, and optionally which app you used (e.g. "paid via Venmo"); this is a label you choose, not a connection to your actual Venmo/PayPal/Cash App account. Split Happy never sees your balance, card, or bank details on any payment provider, and never moves money itself.
Anything you log in a group (expenses, notes, receipts, settlements) is visible to every member of that group, by design.
Device contacts
If you use the "add from contacts" feature to invite people you know, Split Happy reads your device's contact list on your device only to suggest names; your contacts are never uploaded to our servers or seen by us. If you invite someone this way, only the specific name/phone number/email of the person you chose to invite is sent, the same as if you'd typed it in yourself.
Push notification token
If you enable notifications, we store a device push token so we can deliver alerts (e.g. "you were added to a group," payment reminders). This token identifies your device to Apple's/Google's push services, not you personally.
Analytics
Split Happy uses Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used (which screens people open and where flows are abandoned) so we can decide what to build and fix. It records screen names and app events, general device information (model, OS version, and country-level location derived from IP address), and an app instance identifier.
This information is associated with your account identifier, so it is not anonymous to us. We use it to understand usage patterns, not to profile you individually.
We never send the contents of your data to analytics. Expense names and notes, amounts, group names, member names, and receipt photos are never included in an analytics event.
We do not use analytics for advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Crash and error reporting
Split Happy uses Firebase Crashlytics to record crashes and unhandled errors so they can be fixed. A report includes the error and where in the code it happened, plus device model and OS version. It does not include your expenses, notes, or receipts.
Automatically collected information
Like virtually any cloud-connected app, our infrastructure provider (Google Cloud/Firebase) processes standard technical data to operate (e.g. IP address, at the network level) as part of handling requests.
How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and let you sign in.
- To operate the app's core function: splitting expenses, tracking balances, and settling up within groups you join.
- To send you notifications you've opted into (activity in your groups, payment reminders).
- To email you when someone invites you to a group.
- To respond to support requests.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the app is used and where it fails, so we can improve it.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share information with
| Who | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Other members of your groups | Your display name, photo, payment handles (if set), and anything you log in that shared group | That's the point of a shared expense-splitting group |
| Google Cloud / Firebase | All account and app data | Our hosting/database/authentication infrastructure |
| Resend | The email address of someone you invite | Delivers the invite email |
| Firebase Analytics | Usage events, screen names, an app instance identifier, device model/OS, country | Tells us which features are used and where flows break down |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Crash and error reports, device model/OS | Lets us find and fix crashes |
| Expo | Your device's push token | Delivers push notifications (Expo relays to Apple/Google's own push services) |
| Google/Apple Sign-In | Nothing beyond the standard sign-in handshake | Only if you choose to sign in that way |
We never share your data with advertisers or data brokers, and we don't sell it to anyone.
Your choices
- Edit your display name, photo, currency, appearance, and payment handles anytime from your Profile.
- Turn activity or reminder notifications on/off independently.
- Leave a group you no longer want to be part of.
- Archive a group to hide it from your list without deleting anything.
- Delete your account entirely, in-app, at any time (Profile → Delete account).
What happens when you delete your account
Deleting your account removes your personal data (your email, phone number, profile photo, and login) and permanently deletes your account. Because expenses you were part of are shared history for other group members (e.g. someone else's group still needs to show that a $40 dinner happened and who owed what), your past expenses and settlements are not deleted outright; instead, your identity in that history is converted into an anonymous placeholder that keeps the numbers accurate for everyone else without keeping any way to trace it back to you (no email, no login, no way to sign back into it). If you were the sole real member of a group, that group and its entire history is deleted along with your account.
Children's privacy
Split Happy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Security
All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Access to your data is controlled by server-side security rules: group data is only readable by members of that specific group, and your private account details (email, phone number) are never exposed to other users, including your own group members.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Split Happy after a change means you accept the updated policy.
